Mama Myth Mending: healing birth trauma
Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth. ~ Rumi
You want to know your birth and mothering story with fluidity, freedom, power and peace… even the parts that were difficult or traumatic. You’re a new mother trying to cope after a difficult birth. Or maybe you recently had a wonderful birth, but keep re-playing a part of it that tripped you up, something that keeps buggin’ you, or even haunting you. Perhaps you got hung up on the other side during the early days caring for your newborn, or perhaps it was/is in the fertility dance.
You’ve tried talking about it with your doctor or midwife. You’ve tried talking about it with your partner. You’ve tried talking about it with other mama friends. Maybe you’ve attended a “birth story” workshop or seen a therapist. You may even have resigned yourself to just living with it haunting you and even though it’s painful, you just have to move on and take care of your family. You don’t have the time or energy to figure out how to stop the invasive thoughts, and nothing you’ve tried so far has really made a lasting difference. Even if you aren’t feeling horrible about your birth, if you’re like most mothers, you are still far from feeling like a hero or a warrior no matter how much you wish you could.
If this sounds like you, then keep reading….
Birth trauma is a very misunderstood phenomenon ~ for mama and her baby. Most talk therapy, including a lot of birth story work, can actually make birth trauma worse rather than better, and the general population, including your partner and mother, just don’t know how to get to the root of your upset. They can’t. It’s just not a part of our cultural know-how. Fortunately that is changing and there are some really lovely tools for integrating intense experiences and renegotiating trauma.
Getting to root of birth trauma is my specialty.
I have delved into the world of healing trauma and combined it with my passion for the transformative power of birth to create a paradigm and method for liberating you from all that recurring pain about what-ought-to-be (and what still can be) one of your life’s most precious and powerful rites of passage.
Stages of the process:
- settling into yourself and your own somatic knowing
- slowing down the story and taking it in small vingettes
- renegotiating / completing each vignette in the present so your system can finally rest
- integrating the shift into mind, body, emotion, spirit
Who Mama Myth Mending is for:
- New mothers who want to integrate their birth experience
- Any mother who wants to heal from a traumatic birth ~ recent or in the distant past
- Seasoned mothers who want to fine-tune or expand their mothering
What Mama Myth Mending includes:
- 3 Myth Mending Skype sessions with Krista
- priority access to me via my super secret email address
What you’ll come away with:
- A sense of your own story, not a new one, but a deeper, wiser, more whole one that makes you smile.
- Peace with those regrets……
- A little jiggle to those stuck places and new found resilience as they warm, thaw and begin to unfold……. rippling out into your experience as a mother now, as well as into your whole life: past present, future……..
What Mama Myth Mending isn’t:
A pep-talk-ey majigger: No quick fixes that require willpower, re-thinking things, or psyching yourself up!
Catharsis, or Primal Therapy: Mama Myth Mending is as gentle as can be and all the more powerful because of it. Catharsis can actually be re-traumatizing and while it can blow off some steam it just isn’t as efficient as the slow gentle invitation and careful re-imprinting we will do together.
Birth Story Telling: While we will be working with birth and mothering stories, you won’t just be telling me your story – that can also be re-traumatizing. Instead, we will be using the stories as starting places for deep and meaningful discovery, resolution and healing. No joke.
