Baby Blooming: birth preparation

You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. ~ Mary Oliver

You want to birth your baby in connection, awareness, and joy…… without following all that advice. You want an authentic and empowering birth experience that will contribute to your important work as a mother. You know that birth is mysterious and unpredictable, but who needs all the horror stories? You want support and witnessing without denying the reality and intensity of birth.

You’ve read some books. Maybe you’ve even looked into, or taken, childbirth education classes in your area. You’ve tried visualizations, and pain coping strategies. You’ve even tried ignoring your worries ~ trusting that everything will be ok if you can just stay relaxed. But you still have these worries. They may not seem big (or they may seem huge), but you want to clear them up before you go into labor. And so far, nothing seems to help you gain the peace and readiness you’re looking for.

You see, much of the childbirth education and preparation available is either about preparing you to submit to the expertise of someone else or about how to take control of your birth experience by absorbing a whole bunch of information and advice. Then there is the kind of preparation that aims to help you have a peaceful pain-free birth or an ecstatic-orgasmic one. The problem with this is that they all assume that everyone’s birth experience ought to be the same: quick, painless, and trouble-free.

Birth just isn’t that simple.

I mean, every mother and baby is different and each unique combination needs something unique. One size fits all preparation sets mothers up to feel like failures if their birth experience doesn’t measure up and complacent if their birth seems easy. There is no way to guarantee someone’s birth experience through mastering a technique or digesting information.

Childbirth is a Rite of Passage… not a competition.

And that’s why I think it needs a very spacial kind of preparation. In order to give birth and emerge whole, a mother needs to resolve the traumas her ideal birth is likely to trigger ~ in particular her own birth. She needs to have the opportunity to work though her own birth memories before she goes into labor so that she can choose the right support team and the right place for giving birth. If she is able to resolve her own birth trauma she will be free to meet and greet her baby as a unique being and birth him/her in connection, awareness and joy regardless of the outcome.

What if I want to have an unassisted birth? (or a hospital birth….)

I believe that a woman has an instinct about where to give birth. My job is to help her find and embrace her instinctual self and to honor her incredible knowing. I trust you.

What if I have been sexually abused? Will you work with me and will it help me?

Baby Blooming is ideal for women who have been sexually abused and I am happy and honored to work with you. Memories of sexual abuse are often triggered when a woman gives birth. Resolving them ahead of time can reduce interventions and birth trauma due to blocks and resistance. The work is gentle and efficient without being re-traumatizing.

What if three sessions isn’t enough?

Three sessions has proven to hit a sweet spot with my clients. Ultimately it depends on you and how deeply you want and need to take the work.

Who Baby Blooming is for:

  • Pregnant women who want authentic aware births
  • fathers too!

What you’ll get:

  • 3 one on one sessions with Krista, face to face or via Skype
  • priority contact with me

What you will come away with:

  • A deep knowing that you can meet and greet your fears if/when they show up in labor……
  • A visceral sense of what your ideal birth is.
  • Fun, joy, and connection to the bliss and beauty of birth…….
  • Connection with your baby….. a knowing that you and your baby are doing this getting-born-thing together……. huh……. yes, its true! you aren’t doing it alone…..
  • Confidence in your birth plan and team as well as flexibility to meet the unknown……
  • A sense of peaceful surrender to the process that you can return to even after your baby is born and you are navigating the amazing terrain of motherhood.

What Baby Blooming isn’t:

A pep-session, affirmation builder, or relaxation training: While those things might be helpful for you, this work is more about getting to your own knowing of what you need…… if it’s these things you can then go out and find them knowing they are what you need rather than shooting in the dark for some possible right thing for you.

A place to learn pain-coping:  I want something a little different for you. I want you to find that place in you that knows what is right for each moment in labor, birth, and mothering….. that place that you can return to even when you fall off your horse. Pain is a mysterious part of being human and resisting it is normal. So is finding surrender. Labor is a lot more than pain. I want you to recover the resilience necessary to meet each sensation, whether it’s pain or bliss with awareness and knowing.

A promise, or even hope for, pain-free or orgasmic birthing:  Our culture puts a lot of emphasis on avoiding pain at all costs. Whether its an epidural or the promise of an orgasmic birth, mother’s are given the message that pain in childbirth is unacceptable. Our goal will be to maintain awareness and resilience even in the face of intense pain.

Nervous about making a commitment? I get it. Read my Guarantee.

Here’s what Mama’s are saying:

Krista held a beautiful space for me.  A space free of anyone’s  judgments,
fears or preconceptions… except my own.  In holding that space she gave me
the opportunity and gentle guidance to look at these and walk through them.
I came out on the other side feeling more committed to my birth plan and also
more surrendered to the will of the Universe.  The work we did was simpler
than I expected, but profound in it’s simplicity. I experienced the complete
solidification of trust in my own intuition, my ability to make it through anything,
and renewed faith that, whatever the outcome, my baby was meant to be born
in this way (breech).  To go into labor with all of my fears fully in the light and
no longer holding power in the shadows, gave me the confidence and ability
to be present and focused during my labor. I would absolutely recommend
working with Krista to anyone who is pregnant.  Working with her is the gift
of bringing a richness and consciousness to your birth experience that I think
many women long for, but can be difficult to find in our culture.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!  ~ Liselle Vetsch, Mama of two
